In the past week and change I have been across the state of New York. Here were my destinations:
- Buffalo, NY Friday July 11th for an iPhone
- Victor, NY Sunday July 13th for gas
- Binghamton, NY Sunday July 13th on my way to Albany
- Oneonta, NY Sunday July 13th for lunch/dinner at Brooks BBQ
- Albany, NY Monday July 14th – Friday July 18th for a class
- Oneonta, NY Wednesday July 16th for lunch and to visit people
- Latham and Troy, NY Thursday July 17th for dinner and exploring
- Schenectady, NY Friday July 18th for dinner
- Cicero, NY Saturday July 19th for a party
- Syracuse, NY Saturday July 19th to stay at a friend’s place
- Rochester, NY Sunday July 20th on my way back home
It’s been a week. I really missed my own bed when I returned home. I’m glad to be back in Rochester, but being away from home had me wondering about certain questions. Perhaps I’ll blog about it later.

Fireworks and Such
So, the last week of my life has been interesting. My fourth was good. I hung out with Jeff in Buffalo and then went to he fireworks in downtown Rochester. We sat right near the Freddy-Sue bridge (no, I don’t live in a Southern State, the name is short for Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony) and I was able to take some great pictures. I’ll post them later.
Saturday was a nice relaxing day. I didn’t do much, but spent some time at a particular coffee shop in the Park Ave area. After coming home for dinner, I decided to watch “The Bucket List” and call it a night.
Sunday was the family get together at a park near Lake Ontario. We played the family game, boccie (no, we’re not Italian, but we play it every time we get together). And hung around outside most of the day. It felt great to be outside. I should spend more time outside and less on this 13″ notebook.
Work started again today which means web page coding and hoping that our server admin doesn’t decide to completely change all the div names when he redoes the template.
Also, I’ve started reading most of the blogs on the right-hand column via Google Reader. It’s quite a handy tool. I think I’m back on the Google Bandwagon, even though I’m debating Mobile Me. I guess it’ll all depend on work’s new calendaring system.
As for the iPhone I’m still debating on getting it. I’m 90% sure corporate discounts will apply, and it would be great to have for my trip to Albany, but is $82/month REALLY worth it?

Spencerport
So, driving around downtown Rochester yesterday I learned something: I don’t think I really want to live in Rochester. I want to be close to nightlife and my friends downtown, but working 30 minutes outside of Rochester (Brockport) and commuting on the expressway seems wrong given that gas is going to be $10/gal before I know it. The solution: live close to work but close to downtown. This means Spencerport. I found a few apartment complexes to check out tomorrow. In fact, here’s my schedule:
8:30am – wake up, shower, coffee
9:00am – call complexes in Rochester to make appointments
10:00am – stop by first complex in Spencerport
10:30am – stop by second complex in Spencerport
11:15am – Stop by first building downtonw
11:45am – Stop by second building downtown
12:15pm – Stop by third building downtown
1:00pm – Hopefully make decision about where to live, take care of details
2:30pm – Stop by future work place and see my “interim office”
I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Apartment Candidates
Building? House? Complex? Downtown? Near work? Live at home? Here are the candidates to this point:
1.) Apartment in a house, decent neighborhood $600/month + electric; pets okay
2.) Art deco building, top floor, no stairs, $615/month+electric; no pets; good neighborhood
3.) Building, $665/month+electric; elevator; covered parking; no pets
4.) Apartment in a house; $700 all inclusive, street parking; pets ok
5.) Building, $580+electric; no pets; decent neighborhood; no pets
Are there any other major qualifications I should look at? I don’t have a pet, but would like to be able to get one.

Moving on up….
I got a new job! Well, almost. Nothing official yet, but I’ll be back in the 585 area code come the end of April as long as the appropriate paperwork gets sent my way. More details to come. Anyone know of a good apartment in the Rochester, NY area?

Another Whirlwind Update
So, I don’t really know where I’ve been lately, but hopefully I’m back for a while. By hopefully I’m back I mean you should all comment on this post so that I’ll feel encouraged enough to make other posts.
I’m heading to Rochester Thursday morning for a dentist’s appointment followed by a weekend in Rochester and maybe another appointment on Monday.
I’ve been listening to “There’s a Fine, Fine Line” lately. Powerful words for puppets. Another good song, “I Won’t Go Home Without You” by Maroon 5.

Rochester
Okay, so I’ve been back for two days, and I’m happy to be in Rochester. I miss city life. While Oneonta is technically a city, it’s nothing compared to Rochester. For instance, I’m writing this from a coffee shop. There are young people all around me, and it’s just a nice atmosphere. I’m beginning to think it’s time to move….

It’s that time of year again…
Today was one of the worst drives from Rochester to Oneonta that I’ve yet experienced — just plain stupid people on the road. If someone is pulled over, don’t stop to look at them… just keep going and be glad it wasn’t you! At least I had my iPhone with plenty of music to keep me entertained.
