Don’t lose my number…
October 14, 2007
So, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m a phone geek. Phone GEEK. It’s the area of technology that interests me the most. Phone numbers also interest me (yup, I just got the triple dork seal of approval, I’m sure!) in the fact that we are no longer necessarily tied to an area code.
Take, for example, me. I have three phones in my house (eek!) and each serves a different purpose. However, each has a different area code. No, I don’t live in NYC. There is only one area code in my geographic area, 607. Here’s what I have:
- cell phone, 585 area code. I’m from the Rochester area, and my phone number is actually from Geneseo NY where I went to undergrad.
- digital phone, 716 area code. I got this when I lived in Buffalo and used it as my home phone. I can make unlimited calls (to the US and Cananda — which was important when I was in Buffalo and had Canadian friends) for what I paid upfront, $199 for two years.
- landline, 607 area code. Since I live in the boonies and wanted a local phone number, I got a landline. People can call me locally, especially work. I also figured that since I live completely alone it’d be good to have a phone that can call 911 in the event the power goes out and I’m near death (but still able to dial three numbers).
- virtual fax & voicemail line, 602 area code (Phoenix, AZ) — (free number from jConnect – I can receive faxes in my email for free).
The question lately is, now that I live away from Rochester, should I get a 607 area code cell phone number? I’ll be here for a while. Comment and let me know.
